Toll of Parental Incarceration
on Kids, Families and Communities

There are more than 1.7 million children in the United States with an incarcerated parent. Approximately 10 million—one in eight—of the nation’s children have experienced parental incarceration at some point in their lives. Rates are exacerbated in poor and minority communities. One in 43 (2.3 percent) American children has a parent incarcerated in state or federal prison.

” I encouraged every man in my life to take their sons to see the play. It's not only for Black fathers and sons though…it's for Fathers and Sons… I salute you Coley and Ahmarr. -June Hawkins “
